Drumming is for everyone. Whether you're 6 or 60, there is never a bad time to get behind the kit. Drumming is a great way for you or your children to expend that extra energy in a positive and creative manner and is fantastic at keeping your mind and body healthy.

I base all my lessons around 4 core pillars which you can see below. Every lesson is tailored to your individual needs, depending on what you're looking to get out of this amazing instrument. Whether it is preparing for an up-coming exam, learning to play your favourite songs or composing your own music with your band, I will make sure your lessons help you get there. You might also have no idea what you want to do and that is fine. I can lead you until we naturally find out where and how you wish to progress.
All I ask from my students is for them to dedicate time each week to practice as that is the only way to improve.

I can conduct both online and face-to-face lessons in your own home, ensuring you are somewhere familiar, something that often helps younger students and their parents. Don't worry if you don't have a drum kit yet; you surprisingly don't need a lot of equipment to start off.
Grades
I teach from both the Trinity College Drum Kit books and the Rock School Drum Kit books, from Grades 1-8. This isn't to say that we can't look at anything else - if you have a music school that you wish to work from, that is fine. Working through your grades is a great way to become a well-rounded musician. You will deal with many different genres and styles of music, learn to play both solo and with an accompaniment and will learn to read drum music. It also provides a great structure to your learning with clear milestones to tick off as you progress.
Songs
Music is incredibly influential to so many people and it can often be the reason to start playing. I have great experience in a wealth of different genres and deconstructing songs for students. We will sit down together and learn the process of deconstructing the song, learning how to listen correctly and then working out the drum parts. This is an incredibly personal experience, ensuring you're able to play the type of music you wish to. This works very well alongside learning your grades, as both pillars will help each other.
Exercises and Rudiments
These are your building blocks; the tools you need to achieve your goals behind the drum kit. We will focus on developing the following aspects:
-
Technique
-
Endurance
-
Speed
-
Knowledge
-
Independence
-
Reading
-
Improvisation
-
Dynamics
Real World Application
This element is often over looked. Being a musician today requires many different skills, and this part of our lesson will offer real world advice and help. From setting your drum kit up correctly, tuning your drums, playing with other musicians, starting a band, playing your first gig and recording your debut record, I can be there to help and guide you. This is also a great opportunity to discuss what you want to do with the instrument - whether it continues to be a hobby or whether it can one day become something more.
30 Minute Lesson
£25
30 minute lessons are the perfect length for those who are first starting out or for those with a limited amount of time available. During the lesson we will go through a progressive warm up routine tailored to your needs, as well as focusing on one or two of the above sections before finalising your practice routine ahead of the next lesson. 30 minute lessons are also great as a refresher if you're looking to get back into the drums or a top-up to any existing tuition you are currently receiving.
45 Minute Lesson
£30
45 minute lessons are the most common and feature a good mix between efficiency and indulgence. Perfect for those with a plan in mind, whether that is grade specific or band related, as it gives us more time to focus on individual areas. A typical 45 minute lesson will include a warm up, 15-20 minutes spent on one area, 15-20 minutes spent on the second area with a recap and plan for your weeks practice.
60 Minute Lesson
£35
60 minute lessons are perfect for students from the ages of 13 and up. Lessons involve a purpose-built warm up, followed by 2-3 main areas of focus. This can also be used for an intensive session in one area. For example, as the final preparation for an up-coming exam. I recommend 60 minute lessons whenever possible as they allow us to cover more content in final detail.
