I first began playing drums at school, learning the basics of rhythm, co-ordination and reading, though I didn’t realise it at the time: I was simply focused on making music with my friends. We developed a taste for rock and metal music and so that’s what we made. It was loud, fast and demanding. This really helped me learn what it takes to be in a band – looking past your individual parts, and how you fit as part of an ensemble. This accelerated my musicianship, with both band and lessons complimenting each other.

I studied Music Technology at A-Level, which opened my eyes to a whole world of music and a new way of playing and writing behind the drum kit. From there, I went to Southampton Solent University where I graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in Popular Music Performance. Throughout this time I was constantly in bands of varying genres, from rock and indie through to acoustic and folk.

I taught privately during my final year of university before joining the Hampshire Music Service in 2014 as a full-time teacher. Throughout my time with the service, I taught a wide variety of ages with varying abilities. I spent a lot of time developing co-ordination and rhythm for children with special needs which was a fantastic experience. I also taught classes in both Samba and African Percussion at various junior schools. I learnt a great deal about my own playing and how to develop each student individually.

I now teach privately and play professionally full-time. There is no greater feeling than being behind a drum kit and giving 100% to a full audience.

Drums are a real passion of mine and I hope to make them yours one day.

I look forward to hearing from you.
